Elinor is honestly the best tutor I have ever had for my kids - and with 4 kids, 3 now graduated from high school, we have seen a lot of tutors! The best thing about her is she doesn't let your child get away with anything! If they don't understand the work, she will let you know! Her constant interaction with parents makes you really feel like your child is in excellent hands. The Mathematics curriculum is complex and difficult and with high school class sizes as large as they are, the one-on-one approach is always the best. My 13 year-old daughter - in grade 8 - went to see Elinor with a Math mark in the low 70’s that we hoped would improve. It did not take very long at all (about 3 months) after she began to see Elinor that her mark rose to 93-95%. The wonderful side effect of this was that her much improved performance in Math spilled over into other courses that she was not being tutored for. My daughter became much more excited and confident about school in general as all her marks rose. She used the same approach that Elinor had taught her for her other subjects as well.

My daughter had tutoring by Breakthrough Educational Services from Grades 9 to 11. She felt that she was not grasping Math concepts to the best of her ability and was frustrated by the subject. Elinor has been Carli’s Math tutor since the end of grade 7 and has tutored her in grade 8 at Thornhill Woods Public School as well as through her academic high school years at Westmount Collegiate Institute.
When Carli initially started Math lessons with Elinor, her areas of weakness included problem solving and fractions. She had difficulty understanding her teacher, who was unavailable to assist her on a one-on-one basis. Therefore, we chose Elinor, who came highly recommended, as she had the patience and ability to explain Math problems in a simplistic way.
Carli’s grades improved drastically over the four years. In grade 7, she received an average in the low 70’s, and her grades, with tutoring, rose to 80’s and then the mid-90’s. Elinor Mintz has been tutoring me for about two years. When I first started working with Elinor, my marks were in the 40’s and 50’s. I finished my grade 9 year of High School with an average of about 70% for Academic Math. That was when I tried to do it alone. When I was given my report card that year, I was told that I should take the Applied version of this course in Grade 10. I decided that this was not an option. I wanted to be at an academic level and that meant that I needed help.
Over that summer, I looked around for a tutor and came across Elinor. I am not exactly the average kid, considering that most of my time is taken up by my training - for Cycling and Triathlons - which left me with little time to do homework let alone get extra help. I still contacted Elinor and found out that she was willing to try and fit in with my training schedule.
After a summer of hard work and a semester of extra help and exam prep (from Elinor), I finished my grade 10 year with an average of 94% in Academic Math. I hold Elinor Mintz 100% responsible for this turn-around. Not only is she hands-on, but she is also patient, reliable, trustworthy, and isn’t afraid of cracking a joke every once in a while. In grade 9, I hated Math without a tutor; Elinor made grade 10 Math as fun as it could be.
